[4suite] install 4Suite-0.9.1a1 failed

I've downloaded the above and when I do:
python setup.py build

I get a bunch of messages and then the last thing is:
running build_extra
with nothing following that.

I then do:
python setup.py install --prefix=~/ > mybuild.txt

and get the following error:

TypeError: call of non-function (type string)

I don't have anything in python1.5/site-packages.  distutils is in /usr/web/great/lib/python/distutils.
