My feeling is that if XSLT NG becomes necessary, it will be a much simpler
task than XPath NG. You could pretty much take XSLT 2.0 (which isn't half
as bad as XPath 2.0 in my opinion) and remove the XPath 2.0 and schema
dependencies. And some new instructions like the analyze-string element could
probably be equally well or even better implemented with user defined XPath NG
functions.
